STWS is pleased to host Bruce's Patterson's participatory workshop titled "Stress: A First Aid Kit" on Wednesday March 19th at 7pm for the September 11th community. For information and to reserve a spot, visit http://stws.org In "A Stress First Aid Kit," Bruce Patterson teaches several easily applied and practical tools for handling crisis or distress that work fast, require no previous training, are safe to use in any situation and can be taught to others. With the help of music, technology and audio-visual props, Bruce avoids the dryness of standard "headucation" in this experiential workshop that allows participants to have fun and learn by doing as well as listening. Come with an open mind and leave with tools you can use for the rest of your life. Bruce Woods Patterson, MSW, LCSW Bruce Patterson is a psychotherapist who specializes in the energy psychologies, an approved consultant in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which he also teaches, a certified Focusing Trainer and a Reconnective Healing practitioner. He served as director of the world's first AIDS hotline for a decade at the Gay Men's Health Crisis(GMHC)in New York City, after which he chronicled his experiences there in an op-ed piece for The New York Times , "Twelve Years of Farewells," and in a piece in the Peter Jennings book, The Century. He has taught at Hunter and City Colleges and is a recipient of the Diego Lopez Award for Outstanding Service to People with AIDS given by the National Association of Social Workers. As a volunteer trauma specialist, Bruce treated his fellow New Yorkers in the wake of September 11th, 2001, and first responders in New Orleans following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In addition to his workshops, Bruce maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Chelsea.
