Naturopathic Vitalism: Camp Cohen Kellum Lucius Riley 2007
Naturopathic Vitalism: Camp Cohen Kellum Lucius Riley 2007daijiyobu

Naturopathy's Essential Vitalism - Camp, Cohen, Kellum, Lucius, Riley-Jones {02-2007}: 01. Camp, E. (ND SCNM), Cohen, S. (ND SCNM), Kellum, N. (ND SCNM), Lucius, K. (ND SCNM), Riley-Jones, L. (ND SCNM) state in "Philosophy" (at http://web.archive.org/web/20070222051242/http://whnmc.com/philosophy.htm ): "naturopathic doctors (ND) [...] use the art and science of individualized health care [...we] are guided by a distinct philosophy: [#1] the healing power of nature (vis medicatrix naturae) [HPN, VMN...aka] the natural healing ability [NHA] of each person's body." Note: we are told naturopathy is a "science" centered around HPN, VMN, & NHA. We are similarly told by these doctors' State organization, the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors (see http://web.archive.org/web/20040803030728/http://www.nhand.org/naturopathic.php ): "naturopathic doctors are trained at accredited, four-year, post- -graduate, residential naturopathic medical programs. The training consists of comprehensive study of the conventional medical sciences." 02. look closely OTHERWHERES {you'll have to, to get something like 'comprehensively disclosed truthfulness' in order to make a 'rationally informed evaluation'}, and you may glean that the HPN,VMN & NHA of naturopathy specifically is the hugely science-ejected belief / sectic premise of vitalism {and perhaps that a science centered around what's hugely science-ejected is nonsense}: 02.a. naturopathy's essential vitalism is stated at these practitioners' alma mater, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, per "Is Alternative Medicine For You?" (see http://web.archive.org/web/20030321091010/http://www.scnm.edu/ ): "the healing power of nature [...] the vis medicatrix naturae is also referred to as chi in Chinese medicine, prana in ayurveda, and vital force in homeopathy. When alive, the vis medicatrix naturae enables humans and other living beings to resist entropy and decay [!!!], unlike inanimate objects that are subject to these effects. Creating treatment plans that harness the healing power of nature [...this is] the essence of naturopathic medicine." Note: such vitalism is naturopathy-wide, essential as stated at the Federation of Naturopathic Licensing Authorities page "Philosophy," the top of the AANP-CAND organizational pyramid, per (see http://web.archive.org/web/20021025130843/http://www.fnpla.org/philosophy.htm ): "[naturopathy's] methods of treatments are chosen to work with the patient's vital force [...principle #1] the healing power of nature. Vis medicatrix naturae [...] nature heals through the response of the life force. The physician's role is to facilitate and augment this process [...principle #3] first do no harm. Primum no nocere [...] symptoms [...] in fact [are] an expression of the life force attempting to heal itself." 02.b. science has profoundly ejected such vitalistic premises (see http://novfsinscience.blogspot.com/ ). 02.c. these example practitioners give us a peek at some of naturopathy's vitalism per "Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture" (at http://web.archive.org/web/20070221025901/http://whnmc.com/tcm.htm ): "qi [...] 'chi,' is the vital force that controls mental and physical functioning." 03. by modern standards, what is the ethical position of a 'profession' that poses profoundly science-ejected figments as in fact scientific premises? I see an unethical sectarian pseudoscience. Scientifically speaking, a sectic belief in 'a vital force governing physiology' / 'medical vitalism' is archaic nonsense. Posing the hugely nonscientific as scientific directly conflicts with modern medicine's ethical obligation to scientific integrity (see http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/full/136/3/243 ).
